From Social Work to Judo & Jiu Jitsu
Lori Latimer is a writer, social worker, judoka, and jiu jitsuka who lives in Philadelphia. Lori earned her Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from the University of Massachusetts, where she studied artistic and cultural expressions of resistance against systemic oppression. Lori went on to receive her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania so she could work directly with underserved individuals and communities. She has experience in housing and homelessness, mental health, and trauma. Lori currently works as a medical social worker in geriatrics. She holds a life-long passion for literature, and has been writing fiction, poetry, and essays since childhood. Lori is equally passionate about judo and jiu jitsu, and her martial arts practices hold strong influence on her life and work.
Lori also runs her blog, Uphill, where she offers witty insight into some of her own personal thoughts and feelings in relation to social work, her own life, and judo. Readers can connect with Lori through her newsletter, HERE.
